Growing a Greener Future, One Seed at a Time

Since 2021, Green Shelter has been bringing communities together through seed fairs and seed swap events, creating opportunities for people to share seeds, knowledge, experiences and a love for growing.

In the early years, most of our events were held in London and surrounding areas. In 2025, we took an important step forward by organising 10 seed swap events across the country, bringing our initiative to communities in London, Manchester, Birmingham, Kent, Bristol, Swindon, Luton, Stevenage, Cambridge and Bedford.

Our events have been hosted in welcoming community spaces, where local Mayors and Councillors have been invited to join and support the celebrations. We have also worked closely with local charities, councils, allotment associations, community groups and businesses, building partnerships that help strengthen local participation and make each event a shared community experience.

To reach local residents, we have used a combination of social media, banners, posters, leaflets and personal networks. Most importantly, our events have grown through the enthusiasm of people who believe in sharing, growing and nurturing a more sustainable future together.

SEED SWAP

From a Pilot to a Growing Movement

The success of our seed swap events has encouraged us to think bigger.

Building on this experience, Green Shelter plans to organise 100 seed swap events in 2027, with an ambitious longer-term vision of reaching 500 towns and communities across the country.

We know that this is a big dream, but we believe meaningful change begins with small, shared actions. A handful of seeds can become a garden, a garden can bring people together and a connected community can help create a greener future.

Our board members, volunteers and supporters are working hard to build a strong network of political leaders, councillors, local councils, community organisations, charities, businesses and other partners.

Growing Together

Our dedicated team is also exploring potential funding opportunities and partnerships to help us expand our work and reach more communities.

We are deeply grateful to all our supporters, sponsors, donors, partners, volunteers and individuals who have generously shared their time, resources, knowledge and encouragement with us.
