Gardening for everyone
Gardening for Everyone is a community project proposed by Green Shelter Society UK to make gardening and small-scale food growing more accessible to people on lower incomes across the UK. The project will remove some of the financial and knowledge barriers that can prevent people from growing plants, vegetables, herbs and other useful crops.
What the Project Will Offer
Participants will receive:
Free seeds and basic growing guidance
Support with choosing containers, compost and suitable crops
Practical workshops covering sowing, seedling care, watering, transplanting, harvesting and natural pest management
Opportunities to access shared tools and gardening resources where available
Ongoing support from experienced growers and volunteer mentors
Seedling-swap events where plants, knowledge and growing resources can be shared
Participants who grow more seedlings than they need will be encouraged to swap, donate or sell them affordably within their local community.
Who the Project Is For
The project will prioritise people and households experiencing financial hardship or barriers to accessing gardening resources. This includes people with limited outdoor space, little previous gardening experience or limited access to affordable fresh produce and community growing opportunities.
